What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a non-surgical procedure for facial rejuvenation, designed to improve skin quality through creation of micro-injuries to the dermis and epidermis of the skin. It can be used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, irregular skin surface texture and melasma type hyperpigmentation. This treatment involves the use of a sterile needling device to induce a healing response in the skin.

We use a range of specialist skincare products throughout the journey, but will include cleansing, toning, using formulated serum and hydration with a mask, repair and protect products from Juliette Armand.

In our ‘boosting packages’, we use the topical skin boosters from Juliette Armand as an added extra to provide the ultimate compliment to your microneedling treatment.

Please get in touch and we can discuss a single one-off treatment (bookable above), alternatively we can discuss individual treatment plans for your goals in person.

  • A sterile microneedle device is used to create a series of micro-injuries in the skin. The controlled injuries then triggers the body's natural healing responses to heal these micro-wounds by inducing production of new collagen and elastin in the deeper layers of the skin (dermis), and by inducing a healing response through growth factor secretion in the deep layers of the epidermis of the skin. In addition, new capillaries are formed which then leads to improved dermal blood supply and in turn better healing capacity of the skin. Overall this treatment induces skin rejuvenation & improves skin texture and firmness. In addition, for those suffering from melasma, which is difficult to treat with lasers or IPL, microneedling has been shown to be an effective treatment to reduce the intensity of stubborn patches of melasma.

  • Microneedling can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles whilst also increasing the levels of elastin in the skin, causing skin tightening.   Medical microneedling can also improve pigmentation issues such as Melasma and can help in treating scars such as those associated with chronic acne and post-surgical scarring.

  • Microneedling is used primarily on the face and neck but can be used anywhere on the body.

  • Microneedling can be used together with our facials and LED phototherapy as part of a complete treatment package.

  • Some redness immediately after treatment may occur, but this usually settles within 24 hours. Skin texture may feel slightly 'rough' for a few days following the treatment.

  • Day 1: Microneedling Aftercare

During the treatment and first 24 hours of the recovery process clients will experience erythema and petechiae, commonly referred to as redness of the skin and pinpoint bleeding, as well as potential for slight swelling of the skin. Areas with thinner, more delicate skin such as the periorbital area (tissue and skin surrounding the eye) as well as patients using anticoagulant medications or supplements may see increased bruising.

Following your treatment (night or morning after), patients are safe to begin the aftercare steps by washing their face thoroughly using a mild, soap free, pH balanced cleanser ensuring all remaining serum and other debris, such as dried blood, is removed.

Follow with non-active, non-occlusive and non-comedogenic serums that are safe for microneedling, as needed to restore moisture, skin comfort, and accelerate the healing process.

Avoid makeup and any other non recommended products for the remainder of the first 24 hours following the procedure to avoid skin contamination and possible infections. Skin channels are still open and recovering throughout this time period and tools such as makeup brushes can contain bacteria and may cause unwanted skin reactions.

    Day 2: Microneedling Aftercare

On day 2 a red or pink hue of the skin is to be expected and swelling may be somewhat more noticeable. Resume use of a physical block sunscreen at this time. The skin will most likely feel slightly tightened, dry, or itchy- this is the perfect time to increase your serum use, giving your skin the nutrients and moisture it needs. Continue utilising mild cleansers, hydrating serums, and moisturizing topicals.

    Days 3-5: Microneedling Aftercare

After the first 48 hours have passed, Erythema and Petechiae will start to fade and skin will begin to return to full recovery with normalised function around day 4-5. From this point on, skin should start to look normal and signs of successful treatment will begin to appear. We recommend daily use of a physical block sunscreen to protect your skin from environmental damage

Avoid direct sun exposure as well as alcohol based toners for at least 10 days post procedure if possible.

Microneedling aftercare is bespoke to each patient and will be discussed prior and after the treatment.
